Bettina Luise Rürup is the Executive Director of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) office at the United Nations in New York. Associated with FES for more than 20 years Luise served as head of department at FES Headquarters in Berlin as well as at offices in Chile, India, Turkey as well as at the federal state level in Germany. Prior to joining FES she was involved with interdisciplinary field research on rural development in Costa Rica and Tanzania. Luise has published on a wide range of topics related to development, social justice and democracy. Luise earned a master’s degree in Political Sciences from the University of Hamburg (Germany) and an intermediate diploma in Political Sciences from the Free University of Berlin (Germany). She was enrolled with an DAAD exchange program at the L’Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo (Italy) and holds a postgraduate certificate from the Centre for Rural Development (SLE) at the Technical University of Berlin (Germany).
Finance and Operations Manager
Jennifer Landt is the Finance and Operations Manager of the New York Office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. She obtained a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Rostock in Germany. She is responsible for all operational and financial matters and is the leading hand in the organization of programs.
Senior Policy Analyst
Senior expert in charge of global economic and social policy issues at Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) New York office, the Foundation’s liaison to the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, and World Bank. Primary duties include conducting original research, delivering expert presentations, commissioning and editing publications, and organizing conferences and policy dialogues. Issues covered in 2013-14 include income inequality, global governance and sustainable development, as well as original research on the global reach of protest movements. Recent publications include “What an Era of Global Protests Says about the Effectiveness of Human Rights as a Language to Achieve Social Change” in Sur-International Journal on Human Rights and “World Protests 2006-2013”, a working paper co-authored with Isabel Ortiz, Mohamed Berrada and Hernán Cortéz.
Senior Policy Analyst
Volker Lehmann is a Senior Policy Analyst with the FES New York office. He currently focuses on international peace and security issues, particularly with regards to the United Nations, and on the various aspects of reforming the UN. He previously worked as a consultant and journalist, and he was the editor of the journal “Biotechnology and Development Monitor” at the University of Amsterdam. He received a Masters in Biology from the Free University of Berlin and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
Lennart Inklaar is an Administration and Program Officer with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) New York office. At FES New York, he handles organizational and administrative aspects of the preparation, implementation, and follow-up of a diverse range of activities and programs. Lennart holds a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from the University of Groningen and a master’s degree in International Affairs from the New School in New York.
