'Rights-Based Social Protection: From Rhetoric to Action'

FES New York was pleased to support colleagues from the FES Zambia office and partners in organizing this side event to the 56th Commission on Social Development (CSocD56).

“Rights-Based Social Protection: From Rhetoric to Action” was organized to highlight the benefits of a rights-based approach to Social Protection as an important way to eradicate poverty and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Seeking to widen existing political will and to expand more technical discourses into a comprehensive societal discussion, this event featured voices from different stakeholders and brought together experts from different backgrounds.

Panelists stressed the need to strengthen civil society organizations and hold governments accountable to their duties and commitments in order to influence the policy processes of the Sustainable Development Goal’s, Social Protection Floor’s as well as such instruments as the African Union Agenda 2063.
